Dave to the rescue!

How many times have I passed someone on the side of the road who needs help. Usually I only figure out that I could help after I'm already past. Today, I turned around and went back. I'm glad I did.

While taking an uncommon route to work this morning along less-travelled roads, I came across a situation. Snowy road. Dog sitting near the berm. Woman standing in driveway with a blanket. Dog still sitting. Pleading look from woman.

I made it about half a mile down the road before I turned around. I felt a pang inside of me that I couldn't ignore. It was overwhelming. When I got there, everything was as I had seen it. Now there was a teenager, too, with a cordless phone. The dog was quiet, so I knew he was probably in repairable shape.

The woman asked me if I was scared. I said 'sure, just like you, but lets get this taken care of anyway'. The dog would swing her teeth at me, but I was behind him where it was hard to get at. Roxy is her (I think) name. Just 6 months old, but plenty big. I took the blanket and through it over her head, and finally tucked it under. Then we swung him into the woman's pickup.

Turns out the woman was the one who hit the dog. The teenager said it was her sister's dog. She was home from school--suspended. I gave them both a hug. They were driving the dog to the animal hospital.

I hope Roxy is okay. I'm scared to call the vet to find out. Perhaps it is enough that I lived the mantra: "Do The Right Thing". The feeling is very rewarding.
