The same old directory scam, will it never end?

I got a call from them. It sounded just like you are describing here.They called to confirm our listing for http://www.positroincestelecoem.com our company.After a long detailed update on all our info, getting our mailing address for the UPS delivery, … never mentioning they charge for a service…They hung up when I asked them for their phone number at the end of the call when they said they would invoice me for $300 something. I said I wanted to make sure I am never billed. I did jot agree to that.I can not find any phone number for them on their site. I used their contact form to ask thme to call me again. I searched for them and found only your blog! Anyway of knowing how to get their phone #?Im really upset that they would do this. Billd me with out geigin me contact info from themThe weird thing it, the same guy called back saying he had been disconnected suddenly. I asked for his name and he said Gary. They did have a listing, by the way for our companyhttp://www.positronicstelecom.comthey were calling about. The services were all wrong though. We are a Telephone Equipment and date wire cabling company. They had us listed as an Architectural Engineering business! Thus they had plenty of fuel for spending time with me, taking up my time, to correct all this.Really irritating! I want to find them and make sure they do not bill me. Also where can I report them as a possible scam?

Julie–all you need to is a ‘whois’ search on their URL. GoDaddy can do this, if you don’t know where to look.

We are getting scamed b Reed right now. They are charging me $416 for a name and phone number listing. Apparently one of my employees answered the phone and agreed to have them list us. Now they are trying to collect over $400 from us. Do you have any suggestions?

Otherwise legal (or threat of legal) action perhaps.You can report them to the FTC. I can’t because they aren’t trying to bill me. Reed is only one of about 50 companies that do this. Another one is getting a tearsheet from a listing with an invoice. Something we’ve done to combat that issue never paying an invoice without a PO number on it. That way when I receive an invoice for something like this I can say, “It is against our policy to pay any invoice that does not have a PO number attached to it. If you can produce a PO number I can get you paid.” It usually works!

I am dealing with them right know. What a bunch of creeps! They TOTALLY tricked us and had all of the information wrong.

Sick of getting those so called business directory listing updates! 4 this week and not sure if they are from the same one or not they talk so fast and you can’t get a word in edge wise! Last one really burned my bisquit!! I THINK she said she was from one that had “yellowpages” in the title but not sure. No call ID. When I told her I had already updated and didnt understand why I’m still getting these calls here at our business? She said” well did it go throught to our control center?” or something like that.I said, I dont’ know, I do know that I’ve asked before not to recieve these calls after we’ve already updated and we have been in the same location for 30 years! She kept saying that if it didnt’ get switched to this other department that we would still get calls. She was loud and annoying and I was getting another call on another line. Being the only one in the office I hung up on her while she was yacking away after calmly trying to tell her I didn’t have time for this. Guess what, she called back. Never had one do this. I had to answer, I didn’t know if it was a customer. She started talking, I hung up again, I was busy. This happened over and over until She was yelling at me for my name! I said, “mam, you called me, give me your name and company you are with please,” she said , “NO NO NO, that is no way to run a business, hanging up on me!” I asked her again for her name. She said no give me your name, I bet your boss wouldn’t like this. I bet your just a receptionist! OH, and then I was really HOT!!! I laughed at her and gave her my name and told her that I was the executive secretary and the owner of the business was my mother!! She hung up. Which was funny but I have no idea what company it was that called me!! I called phone company to track after *69 didnt’ work nor caller ID. They said they couldn’t help me, so I’m on the search for this rude rude woman! I know I will never find her but I thought some of you may have had the same experience and may know what I’m talking about or who it may be. She sounded foreign but had pretty good english compared to some I’ve talked to. I’m just waiting for a call or letter from this company complaining to my BOSS about me! I hope she does. BRing it on!!!! LOL

hey everyone i had previously worked for the company and its the exact same scam but thy are hiding them selves in a very good business building under the name of reed publications they do the same pitch and scam people for the money if you want to contact these people ill give you a number and then call the rcmp and get them closed down because they will keep opening up companies under different names and i had felt guilty doing what i was doing thats why i quit here is the number 1888-341-1880

We get these calls all the time. They’re all the same so you can tell right off the mark what they are. I’ve now got the response down pat. I let them do their schpeal and then tell them to hunker down in the cubicle and listen closely. I then say that if they don’t want to go to jail, they need to go to the police with all the stuff on their desk immediately and inform on their bosses. Usually, they don’t buy that, but for good measure I then tell them to google “business directory scams” and then ask that they think about our conversation after googling the above search terms. Hopefully some caller will have a change of heart.

They are now operating under the name Infolink Publications and they are using the address1331 MCCORMICK DRIVE, PORT BARRE, LA, 70577. I called city hall at Port Barre and got the number for that address. It is actually storage units. The guy on the other end of the phone did not have much to say and no further information. Weird.

I am so glad I found this blog!! My husband also got conned with the fast talker, and when we received the bill for the useless catalog I called and immediately told them to cancel and we would send the useless book back. The lady on the phone literally threatened to take me to collections and I threatened to call the better business bureau. Then she hung up on me. I did not expect to receive another bill, but sure enough, a new one came and they are even adding a late fee. I wanted everyone to know that they are now using a slighly different address….Infolink Publications at 131 Mccormick Drive, Port Barre, LA 70577-5353. Looks like they are continuing to try to change addresses a little. I am calling the BBB and FTC!

INFOTEL became VERICOM which later became REED PUBLISHING which then became InfoLink which later became Titan Sun Development.They used to do directories, now they do it as cd-roms.I worked there in the past, and always felt I was doing an honest job, but obviously the COMPETITION BUREAU in Canada didn't. If you truly ordered, then you should pay these bastards. If you didn't – report them to the Competition Bureau in Canada, to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General – and don't bother paying.I always felt like I was doing an honest job, but apparently some people there weren't so honest. If you felt you were scammed, all I can do is say don't pay.

I just had someone call the place where I work. They read off all our information and asked me if I was correct and I said it was. They then asked me for my name. I gave them my first name before one of my coworkers told me to hang up. They haven't called back. Did I hang up soon enough or is the damage already done?
