Ran across this news:
“GlobalSpec announced the launch of the Industrial Ad Network (SM), an online banner advertising network designed to reach members of the manufacturing, industrial, technical and engineering communities.”
I thought it sounded like a pretty smart idea. If I wanted to advertise online, right now I have to go to each site and make a special commitment. I’m already tired of managing multiple PPC campaigns, I’d hate to have to do the same with banner ads.
So, has anyone tried this before? Is there any real competition besides Adwords? And is GlobalSpec the company that can do it?

Hi Dave.>>Thanks for the link to the press release on this launch. I vaguely remember something similar to this years ago, maybe in the custom mfg sector. But I’m probably wrong…it’s just tingling a brain cell in the back of my head.>>Competition? Not that I know of, and I’m not sure that I would classify Adwords as competition to this new program. Ms. Hribar keeps using the word ‘branding’ in the press release, and I would agree. I think the banner ads would favor a branding message more than a traffic generation message. [Someone please correct me here, this is just my thought on the topic.] Adwords generate traffic first, branding second.>>This is going to be tricky for GlobalSpec to pull off, or anyone to pull off. Most industrial manufacturers don’t spend much money on branding. And if GS sells this as traffic generation, they won’t get much renewal business.>>On the plus side, it does round out their offering a bit. And gives them something additional to sell to the larger companies.>>Just my $.02.>>–Greg
